SECOND ANNUAL ST. DAVID’S DAY WALK

On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, seven stalwart WSWNE members had a wonderful, but cold, walk in Elizabeth Park, West Hartford, CT, one week after St David’s Day. The date was changed because it snowed the night before St. David’s Day, the first day of March.

At least by Wednesday the paths were clear, but the wind was raw.

So, we soon ducked into the open greenhouse with all the beautiful potted flowering bulbs ready for the annual sale being held on Saturday. There is always a line of people here then and the potted flowers sell out very quickly.

Warming up in the Elizabeth Park greenhouse are Ed Brown, Beth Roberts brown, Tina Davies, Susan Davies Sit, Margaret Korhonen, and Evan Williams.

Above, we are in the greenhouse with some of the potted flowers, so colorful and fragrant and a sure sign of spring coming soon. There were many kinds of narcissus, tulips, and more along with the iconically Welsh daffodils.

We wore Welsh flags and scarves and were stopped by people to ask about the flags, some who knew the flag and some who didn’t.

In the photo below, Cindy Evans (left) was a passerby of Welsh and Irish descent who knew our flag and took a photo of us as we ended our cold walk with some hot cider. On the right, holding up her dog Jax, is our newly elected WSWNE Treasurer, Annie Rodgers.

A hot cider tailgate toast concluded our second annual WSWNE St. David’s Day Walk.
